Grace Space

Middle & High School

Grace Space

Time: Sundays after 9:30 am service

Contact: Christine Jacobsen at gracefirstfamilies@gmail.com

Each Sunday morning, middle and high schoolers share fellowship together at Grace Space. We want Grace Space to be a place of consistent care and faith-building, in a fun and relaxed environment. Over donuts and drinks, we check in with each other and engage in conversation about our lives, the world, and how we can be givers and receivers of Grace.

Because we are all belong to the body of Christ, and because we all have gifts to share, an important part of our vision is helping students “plug in” to various ministries in the church community—like serving communion, helping in Sunday school, baking treats for fellowship, or playing music during the worship service. Each student will have the opportunity to test drive a variety of ministries throughout the year, to see where they find the best fit.

Confirmation

Time: Sunday’s after 9:30 am service

Contact:Christine Jacobsen at gracefirstfamilies@gmail.com

Confirmation is not a lure to bore our students into submission. We do not want to control our youth by planting already formed ideas into their spongy like brains. We do however wish to connect the Gospel with their lives and give them freedom and independence to affirm a promise that was made on their behalf when they were baptized.

When our students were baptized, the adults in their lives promised to… live with them among God’s faithful people, bring them to the word of God and the holy supper, teach them the Lord’s Prayer, the Creed and the Ten Commandments, place in their hands the holy Scriptures, and nurture them in faith and prayer, so that your children may learn to trust God, proclaim Christ through word and deed, care for others and the world God made, and work for justice and peace.” Confirmation is version 2.0 of that promise.

Confirmation includes five teaching points, two years, four retreats and four milestones. Confirmation Education will be on Sunday mornings in the Youth Room and will rotate between a year of Bible (Old and New Testament) and a year of Lutheran Living. A Fall retreat and a Spring retreat will happen both years with emphasis being on fellowship, connecting with God outside of our four walls, and soaking in some of the heavier parts of the education, i.e, connecting with God outdoors and writing a Faith Statement or learning the Catechism, Ten Commandments, etc.

The confirmation process begins in 7th grade. Although your 6th graders will be learning the same material alongside the confirmation students during Grace Space, they will not start the Confirming process until 7th grade.

During the school year, Confirmation Education does not happen the last Sunday of the Month.
